The Film: Supari
STARRING: Uday Chopra, Nandita Das,
DIRECTOR: Padam Kumar
PRODUCER: Padam Kumar
RATING: 0.5/10

Aum Creates Unlimited.s Supari (A) is the story of four young men who want to make easy money. Aryan and his three friends lose a huge sum of money in a bet. Unable to pay up, Aryan is sucked into the underworld by a lady don. He becomes a sharpshooter and also pulls his three friends into the world of crime. For a while, they enjoy the power they wield but along the way, Aryan loses his three friends one by one. They either get killed or commit suicide.

The film is a depressing fare, devoid of comedy, emotions and romance. The drama is of the kind that has been seen before in underworld crime films. Since there.s no entertainment value, the viewer gets bored with the monotony of the thin storyline. The profound philosophy of life explained through the conversations between the friends is irritating, to say the least. Like the story and screenplay, the dialogue (Sutapa Sikdar) are also extremely class-appealing.

Uday Chopra does a fair job as Aryan. Rahul Dev is average. Akash Saigal acts naturally. Purab Kohli also performs quite well. Nandita Das has been miscast. She neither looks a don nor acts like one. Nauheed Cyrusi makes a dull acting debut. Irfaan Khan gets minimal scope but does a fine job. Others lend average support.

Padam Kumar.s direction is one-dimensional. He has narrated the grim story in a style that could put the audiences off completely. Vishal & Shekhar.s music is good. .Tujhe chand chahiye. is a hit song and its picturisation is also very appealing. .Teri masti mein mastana. is also a reasonably well-tuned number. Cinematography is so-so. Action scenes are also not very thrilling. Editing is weak. Production values are average.

On the whole, Supari is devoid of entertainment. At the box-office, this low-priced crime thriller will face scary prospects.

Released on 20-6-.03 at New Excelsior, Novelty (matinee) and 18 other cinemas of Bombay thru Yashraj Films Distributors. Publicity: very good. Opening: fair. .......Also released all over. Opening was dull almost everywhere.
