The Film: Chor Machaye Shor
Starring: Bobby Deol, Shilpa Shetty & Bipasha Basu
Producer: Sanjay Tolani
Director: David Dhawan
Music: Anu Malik
Lyrics: Dev Kohli & Others
Score: *

If Bollywood is making huge losses then it is thanks to directors like David Dhawan who have taken the audience for a big-time royal ride.

Though David Dhawan belives that his movies are cherished by the crowds and killed by the credits. Well, we were in a theatre like that with that kind of audience but they surely were not satisfied. The claps, whistles...the general excitement with comedy flicks was missing this time. Dhawan has lost his road and there is no doubt about it.

The movie has jokes that you have heard and that will hardly make you laugh. On the performance side there is Paresh Rawal who entertains with his funny one-liners. But Paresh is acting the same manner in every film and that could be problem for him.

Bobby looks good and acts reasonably well. Jumps from the building when the net is down to save him – and when not he does bungee jumping! Enter Shilpa Shetty, use for all item numbers where she wears some horrible dress and pouts the way the director seems best. Bipasha is a waste and used for dancing in some track and few other scenes. By the time the movie ends, she is even forgotten by the scriptwriter. As for the screenplay and story nothing really remarkable. Laughs are few and thanks to Mr. Shekhar Suman for doing overtime job in this film by playing so many roles. He does it so well and proves that he a brilliant actor.

The story:

A thief on the run hides a 30 crore diamond in a building under construction. He is arrested and jailed. Months later, he is freed from the jail and in anticipation of that diamond goes back to that site only to find it becoming the police headquarters. So what happens next? A robber turns cop in a mad-cap adventure.

Bobby Deol (Sham/Inspector Ram) plays a bumbling thief Sham, who becomes police inspector Ram in search of the 30 crore booty. Shilpa Shetty (Kajal) plays the ACP's daughter, who falls in love with her father's driver. Bipasha Basu (Inspector Ranjita) falls in love with Inspector Ram never suspecting that he is a thief.

Paresh Rawal (Ranbir Singh) plays the ACP. Om Puri (Inspector Pande) is of a suspicious nature and it borders on paranoia Ashish Vidyarthi (Tito) is a bad man who keeps on changing his avatar from thief to a chaiwaala in search of that diamond.

The music by Anu Mallik is a complete letdown . A below average film, must skip it.
