Priyadarshan and Sunil Shetty have teamed together once again to bring you a comic entertainer. They have previously worked together in Hera Pheri which did very well at the box-office. Produced by Ripples Entertainment Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar is a different type of movie with a different plot from the usual. Along with Sunil Shetty, the movie co-stars Mahima Chaudhary, Usha Nadkarni, Saurab Shukla, and Paresh Rawal (who also worked with Priyadarshan and Sunil in Heri Pheri).
The movie is about a man who is in a lot of debt to no fault of his own. His late father who was the actual victim of all these debts passed away and left them to his son. The name of this son is Dayashankar Pande (Sunil Shetty). The only thing that his father leaves behind in his will is a house located in Mumbai. So Dayashankar starts his journey to Mumbai from his current location in Northern India and when we arrives at the house he sees that a tenant has already occupied the place. The tenant is a young woman named Saraswati Joshi (Mahima Chaudhary), who lives with her family in the house In rage he asks the tenant to leave but to no avail. So he came to a conclusion to ask Saraswati to pay him rent but finds out that she only pays a measly 80 Rupees a month. She is also a poor person and has to support her family which consists of her mother, brother, and sister. So he seeks the help of his old friend Yadav (Paresh Rawal) who is a cop. Yadav wants to help Dayashankar but when he sees Saraswati he forgets all his Brahman ways (and his friend) and falls in love with her. The story now shifts focus onto Yadav for a bit, as it shows him double-crossing both of them to keep himself and them happy. The rest of the movie is all humor as the scenes between Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty as well as the scenes between Sunil Shetty and Saurab Shukla will definitely please the audience. The second half of the movie shows who gets the house, whether Paresh Rawal will be able to tell Saraswati that he loves her, and how Sunil pays off his debts.
An adaptation of a southern movie Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar is meant to be a light comedy but also shows the troubles of a person that is in debt, a subject that many people in India deal with today. Priyadarshan has done a terrific job portraying this. The scripts for the movie are also very well done as many of the scenes are humorous and the one-liners are hilarious. The director has also done a good job choosing the lead cast for the film. Sunil Shetty has once again proven his flair for comedy as his character itself is funny. Mahima Chaudhary who is trying comedy for the first time has also proven herself as she portrays her character wonderfully. One cannot speak enough good of the job that Paresh Rawal has done in this movie. His facial expressions and style will have the audience in splits. He has completely moved away from the villain scene and is now concentrating on only comedy roles (he took a break when he play a semi-serious character in Nayak). The surprise would be Saurab Shukla who plays a killer named Kane (also Saraswati’s uncle) and threatens Sunil Shetty. The cinematography of the film is nicely done, especially for the songs. The music of the film isn ’t too bad as the title track was well done. Southside heroine who has also done a few Hindi films Naghma make a special appearance in one of the songs. The music is directed by Anand-Milind. All in all, this movie will do average business in the box office as the ratings will fall harshly after the first week, or it could surprise us all and become a super-hit as it does have all the essential ingredients for a hit film.
