Synopsis:
Yaadein is finally here. The theaters are already packed, people waited in line for
the opening hours before the first show, just so they could say they were there.
This was all of course a futile attempt to see the movie. Every theater was booked,
weeks in advance. All this hungama over a movie called Yaadein. A movie about memories.
Directed by no other than Subash Ghai, and with his direction one can only expect
the best from this film. It features all the happening stars of today; Hrithik Roshan,
Kareena Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Rati Agnihotri, and many others.
Like most family movies, this one also starts of with the center of attention based
around the family, full of bliss and joy. This time the setting is in the gorgeous
city of London. Raj Singh Puri (Jackie Shroff), his beautiful wife (Rati Agnihotri),
and their three daughters Avantika (Avni vasa), Sania (Himani Rawat), and Isha (Kareena
Kapoor) live a content life. Raj Puri has everything he could ask for. He even has
the loyalty of an old family friend, L.K. Malhotra (Anang Desai), and his wife and
son Rohit (Hrithik Roshan). They are also very content with life; and like the Puri
family, don't let money come between them. L.K. Malhotra's older brother, J.K. Malhotra
(Amrish Puri) believes otherwise, that relationships and life are driven by money
only. Ronit is very close to the Puri family, especially 'Raj uncle'. He also has
some problems with his mother, and seeks contant shelter from the Puri family, especially
his best friend Isha.
The story actually starts when Raj Singh's wife passes away, and he tries to live
in the memories they have shared. Now he has to live for his daughters. As a father,
he was never really involved in their lives. Now he has to play the role of a father
as well as a mother, as he tries to become their friend. So he takes his daughters
and goes back to India, and Ronit tags along. Here he first helps Mr. Puri to find
a match for his eldest daughter, then he helps bring the middle daughter out of the
western culture and back into the Indian culture. Then there is Isha who doesn't
believe in love. A little side story of hers in this movie is that she is a cycling
champ, and in one of her scenes Subhash Ghai makes his extraordinary appearance,
as he does in all his movies. Ronit and Isha eventually do fall in love, but Raj
Puri doesn't want Ronit to marry Isha, but someone else. This is where the twist
turns into a triangle.
Everyone has turned in a laudable performance, notably Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor,
and especially Jackie Shroff; who may even walk away with best actor his role in
this movie. The other two daughters, who surprisingly had big roles in the movie
also acted very well. Amrish Puri's role was also laudable and his character was
interesting and added an extra favor to the plot.
Yaadein definitely had the Subhash Ghai touch. Who else would be able to portray
such scenes and emotions. The scenes were well-sketched and the scripts thought out;
especially the scenes between Jackie-daughters, Jackie-Hrihtik, and Hrithik-Kareena.
The music is composed by none other than Anu Malik, Who has turned in some very melodious
tunes. The title song 'Yaadein' is a great song that sits in your heart. 'Jub Dil
Miley' is a faster paced song and is choreographed very well. Still, the album won't
create any waves in the music industry. The movie will be successful because of the
storyline. The star cast and the fact that it is a Ghai film might also have something
to do with it. Nonetheless, this is one movie that won't leave your memories anytime
soon.
