Synopsis: As the complete 2001 has been a hugely disappointing year for the Mumbai industry. So, at the end of the year, Karan Johar's much-hyped 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' has raised hopes of a last-minute bailout. K3G, of course this movie has got more then three stars. It also brings new image for Kajol , perhaps, her career's best performance. The actress plays a Chandni Chowk (Delhi) girl who talks like a typical Punjabi female would. Her performance is appreciated very much after DDLJ.
Shah Rukh Khan unfortunately was unable to do new thing in his acting though he got good character to play. Shah Rukh as Rahul falls in love with Anjali (Kajol), who dotes on her younger sister Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) and cares madly about her ailing father Bauji (Alok Nath). Rahul decides to leave the mother Jaya Bachchan as Nandini , who taught and encouraged him to fall in love and whose every waking moment henceforth will be spent waiting eagerly for her elder son to return home.
Hrithik Roshan, again knocks on hearts of youngsters with his style and of course with dance too. He emotes beautifully in the scene in which he hugs SRK and breaks down emotionally, begging his elder brother to return home. Hrithik Roshan as Rohan makes a promise to re-unite the family after Rahul left the home for his love.
Big B is after all Big B, he again show his talent , an artist inside him, He is super. Amit as Yashovardhan Raichand did emotional scene too well. He is the father of Rohan and Rahul .
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham features for the first time in almost twenty years, the effervescent pair Jaya and Amitabh Bhachchan.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham revolves around family relationships, it is somewhat of an in depth look at the extremity a family’s life can take. What roads one follows when they realized the roads they have passed and when new directions lead them to new destinations. It is more of a journey, a reflection without the overdosed comedy scenes and subplots or twists. The head of the family is Asha Sachdev, she lives in a sense of happiness with her son and family (Amitabh, Jaya, Hrithik and Shah Rukh). As with many two sibling families, Hrithik and Shah Rukh share a inimitable connection as brothers, with Hrithik idolizing Shah Rukh to his heart’s content. There is no perfect family though, and they come to learn this when Shah Rukh’s identity is revealed.
Shah Rukh was adopted by Hrithik’s parents, and upon learning this, his happiness logically comes to a halt. Shah Rukh is more than disturbed by the information and leaves the family. His departure comes with a sense of darkness, as he holds no ties to the family that once took him in. The khushi the family once felt is now gone, and the journey through sadness makes your film. Kajol and Kareena are the lights that will light up the lives of these dismal protagonists including the brothers at war, and they won’t stop until they achieve their goals. Happiness doesn’t seem so far away now, does it!
2001 has proven a pretty mediocre year for movies with only the recent period films changing the waves. The family theme has been tried many a times, and even the Big B’s latest, Ek Rishtaa, was a family saga that was not much to talk about! Even still, fans are hopeful that Karan´s movie will manage to leave it´s mark. Look for more information as it comes!
