The Film : Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai
The Producers: Rose Movies Combine
The Music Director: Aadesh Srivastava
The Director: Goldie Behl
The Starcast: Jackie Shroff, Sushmita Sen, Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan.

The Story: Dreams are what a person lives for, to hope they come true and the means they go to get them. This is what Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai is about. Goldie Behl directs this movie, his first; it is called Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai. It stars many of the popular names of today; Abhishek Bachan, Rani Mukherjee, Jackie Shroff, and Sushmita Sen. None of these stars have worked with the other, besides Jackie and Rani in Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jaaye.

Abhishek Bachan plays the role of Suraj Shrivastav, a regular man with big dreams. The story starts in Varanasi, where Suraj dreams to make it big but decides Varanasi isn’t the place to do it. So he goes to Mumbai hoping the big city will help him fulfill his dreams. Already it starts to bring him luck because he meets Pooja (Rani Mukherjee) and falls in love with her, and then she starts to bring him luck as he meets his idol Naved Ali (Jackie Shroff), editor of a newspaper, who finds Suraj to be a very bhola person and takes him under his wing. Naved Ali introduces Suraj to the beautiful Lara (Sushmita Sen). Lara plays his right hand man and handles all his problems. So the story goes on as she teaches Suraj how to behave in high social classes and brings him up to standards. Soon he begins to acquire everything he dreamed of, a big mansion, cars, money, a high social life.

Through all of this, Pooja is trying to convince Suraj that the life he is leading is wrong but he isn’t ready to believe it because he has finally become what he dreamed, and starts to forget her and concentrate more on Lara. But then the story takes a fold as he begins to realize that the person who he wanted to emulate, only used him to run his shady deals and Lara was part of it. He realizes the biggest consolation he did have was Pooja’s love, and goes back to her.

This movie is loosely inspired by the Hollywood flick Wall Street directed by Oliver Stone and Bollywood’s own Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. For a first attempt at directing Goldie has done a remarkable job. The music is also good, the best song being the title track. The picturization and cinematography, which was shot mostly in Varanasi is excellent. The whole cast is in need of a hit as each of them have not been able to turn in any recent hits. Junior Bachan’s first three films never lived up to their hype. Still, they have all turned in good performances, especially Abhishek Bachan. Hopefully his real khwab of having at least one hit movie will come true this time around.
