Bobby Deol has become a father and that has him on cloud nine.
Being the youngest in the family, this added responsibility
has done wonders for him. And the icing on the cake is that
Sunny Deol's Gadar released the same day that the child was
born. So his kid is proving to be a lucky charm. Absolutely
overjoyed, here Bobby talks about his kid while blushing all
over.
Congratulations! So how does it feel to be a father?
Thrilling and absolutely wonderful! Everyone is very happy.
It feels great because everybody is thrilled at the moment.
But I have realized one thing - you can feel what it means to
be a parent only once you have a kid. Being a parent is a full
time job.
How did you feel when you heard the news? Were you expecting
a boy or a girl?
No.
I wasn't expecting anything but the reason I kept thinking it
would be a girl was that naam dondhene ke chakkar mein sab ladki
ke naam aa rahen the. I couldn't think of a boy's name. I love
thinking of girl names and I used to talk to my niece in America.
She is eight years old and she used to give me names. She was
so worried that I was talking about girls name. So, she told
my sister that Bobby mama is going to have a girl because he
is always talking about girl names. I even told her that if
I don't have a girl I'll adopt you. So she told my sister I
love Bobby Mamu but I can't live without you too. I really didn't
know what we were going to have. I didn't want to find out.
There is a certain excitement to have a child. For me it doesn't
make a difference whether it's a girl or a boy because from
my experience with my nephews and nieces I realised that my
nieces spent more time with their parents and boys don't. The
guys will always play with the toys and move around. But the
girls sit with you and interact. But a child is a child you
know, because you love the child more than anything else in
the world. Everybody kept telling me that you will have a boy.
I don't know why. Many relatives dreamt that I would have a
boy. After a point, even I dreamt I had a boy.
How did you get this name?
It is not an unusual name. The funniest thing is that when you
are looking for names, the oddest one pop up. When I was discussing
the name, my friends said no this name is not nice and some
would say that one is nice. They said that they knew someone
who had a certain name but turned out unlike his name. Later,
I got so fed up that I told my wife let's forget what everyone
has to say. We will keep the name we like the most and we decided
on Aryaman. Aryaman was always in the list of names that I had
but it never struck me as the best name till I was doing a photo
session with Atul Kasbekar. He just came up with Aryaman. And
when I heard the name from him it sounded wonderful. You know
it's like you keep saying it but when someone says it back to
you, it sounds better.
What does it mean?
It means Protector of the family, first of the blue blood. For
me it's a lovely name and suits my son. Then I remembered the
time when I was a kid and I would get hurt and what kind of
pain my parents would have gone through. I was a rebel as a
kid and now I feel why was I like that. I remember once when
I was three years old, I fell down and had to get stitches on
my head. My dad was the only one at home as my mom and grandmother
had gone to see my dad's film in a nearby theatre. My dad ran
like anything, imagine what he must have gone through to see
his son bleeding all over him. After that, my family never went
to the same theatre to watch any film. It was like that a child
meant so much to them that they didn't want to take any risks.
A child is a big responsibility.
Have you matured?
It is not a question of maturing. How can anyone gauge the level
of maturity? You might behave in a serious manner but might
not be mature enough. I might behave in a jovial manner but
can handle situations with maturity. So maturity means dealing
with serious situations sensibly and not being somber, stern
and grim all the time. I miss Aryaman a lot when I am on the
sets. And there have been times when I am sitting in the living
room and someone says is he sleeping? It takes me a few seconds
to know that I am a father and I have a son. But then there
are moments when I feel I have a son and I want to be with him
all the time. But he sleeps most of the time. He wakes up at
odd hours and when he wakes up in the middle of the night, I
ask my wife if he's fine. Mostly he's either hungry or has wet
his nappy, after that I go back to sleep. People wondered if
I would sleep in the same room or no, but I am fine with him.
Tell us about your forthcoming film Ajnabi.
It's a thriller and Abbas-Mustan are the best directors to make
thrillers. Ajnabi is a romantic thriller with action too. The
film is different from the other thrillers they have made. The
film has moments, which are bold and maybe people are already
speculating about it. But then it's an Indian film so we Indians
don't break the conservative norms. I am really looking forward
to it. I am excited about the film. And they are my favourite
directors too not because they gave me Soldier but due to the
rapport I share with them. I am so close to them that initially
I was to play the other character but they switched me to the
one I am playing now. I never once had to argue with them or
even question them. I have so much faith in them because I know
they will never let me down. I feel great to have such wonderful
relationships with my directors. It is just taking time to be
made due to reasons which can't be explained. I am doing a two-hero
film for the first time. It is about a family who comes to live
in a different country where they come across strangers and
how sometimes the strangers turn out fine and at times dangerous.
You got along very well with Akshay Kumar.
Akshay is a very straightforward guy and I am the same too.
I have no hang ups and I don't like if the other person has
any. Then I keep away which is obvious reaction anyone would
have. But Akshay is a cool guy and a health freak, and it is
good to have such a guy around. He is an easy person to work
with. I call him achche bhaiya. I never expected to become really
good friends with him, not that we keep each other informed
about everything we do but we meet often and keep in touch,
that's all. Tina is now his wife and both of us are really good
friends. She was my first heroine too. So it makes an outing
much more easier.
Which are the other films you are looking forward to?
Abbas Mustan's Ajnabi, Naresh Malhotra's next film with Vinod
Khanna, Rati Agnihotri and Amisha Patel. It is an action film
as I play a cop for the first time. I have two other films with
Abbas Mustan, one is with Arjun Ramphal I think and Priyanka
Chopra and other is with Akshay Kumar. I have a David Dhawan
film where the cast is not decided yet. Then Mahesh Manjrekar's
next with Priyanka Chopra, which is produced by Vijay Galani.
It has lots of emotions and deals with relationships, like a
typical Mahesh Manjrekar film. I have tried to do all sorts
of films in the past and going to keep doing that in future
too. But somehow only my action films have clicked and not the
romantic ones. Doesn't make a difference, as I will keep trying.
I will hit the bull's eye soon.
