HomeInterview /  Bipasha Basu - Bengali Babe
So Bips aka Bipasha Basu is finally to make a marquee on the silver screen! It isn't unusual for model into the world of Hindi films but has she got what it takes to survive in the cut-throat filmdom! "I'm hardworking and I guess there in my lies my USP. Once I decide on something I stick to it like leech and I'm here for better, believe me," she asserts confidently. Dressed in Tshirt and jeans, this Raakhee look alike is perched on the sofa recuperating from heavy cold what with Cape Town chills having sent shivers down her lungs. So amidst sneezes and sniffs Bipasha Basu answers questions of her films and flings:

What is Ajnabee all about?
The film is a murder mystery but of a different genre…

Yeah, Bobby Deol and Akshay Kumar swap you and Kareena…
The wife-swapping bit is just a small segment of the whole film. I doubt whether the audience will even notice it. They will be busy engrossed on knowing who the murderer is! But a theme like this should be watched at least once so that the people learn how bad something like wife-swapping is!

What if your husband was ready to exchange you for another woman?
I'd kill him! He'd meet with a brutal end (laughs)!

Did you see the original film Consenting Adults on which Ajnabee is based?
I have seen Consenting Adults and honestly speaking a film like that cannot be made in India. Like I just said the wife swapping is just a small fraction of the whole film that audience may not even notice.

What was your reaction when you saw yourself on the screen for the first time?

I was flabbergasted! I did not recognize myself! I thought who was this beautiful girl! Haven't seen her anywhere as yet (laughs)! Seriously I minutely observed myself so as to know the aspects I needed to improve on. I have seen Raaz too! That is likely to be my second release. And I noticed that in my second film I definitely have done a better job than Ajnabee. I have evolved as an actress!

Is Raaz a totally heroine oriented film?
Yes! I play this highly educated modern girl who does not believe in the paranormal. And when someone so headstrong begins to see spirits it becomes an issue of concern. So much so that the people around her come to the conclusion that she has become mad. I'm lucky to have got to play this kind of role so early in my career. And believe me the film has shaped out to be better than Kasoor!

What other films do you have on hand?
I'm doing David Dhawan's Chor Machaye Shor with Bobby Deol and Shilpa Shetty. Then there are other three films with absolutely different roles but I don't want to talk about it till I actually begin shooting for them. I'm also doing a song with Akshay Kumar for Aankhen. I'm very sentimental about my first heroes Bobby and Akshay and will do anything for them as a friend.

Sadly the same cannot be said for Kareena Kapoor. Is it true that she harassed the daylights out of you on the sets for Ajnabee?
See Bobby, Tania, Akshay and even Kareena's designer Vikram Phadnis helped me, as I was an absolute novice where films were concerned. Neither did I inter act nor talk to Kareena…

But she has spoken against you print…
I just ignore what she has to say about me! We were just two artistes working in the same film and most of the time I kept to myself! And so did she! There were no fireworks as reported by the press. And whatever she has to say does not affect me at all. What affect me are the things only my near and dear ones have to say about me. The rest I'm not bothered about!

Okay coming to your personal life, have you split with longtime boyfriend Dino Morea?
No! In fact I just spoke to him a few minutes back. Look, relationships have their share of ups and downs but that doesn't mean we call it quits. Dino and I haven't spoken to each other for five days max in the last five years whenever we'd had a fight. And in case we part, we shall always work to be the best of friends.
